When NTW (National Tire Warehouse) was acquired by Sears a few years back, I bought what must have been my third set of tires from them. This may not have been related to the Sears takeover, but riding home my teeth were being rattled by the ride. I pulled over and checked the tire pressure and there was an average of 70 lbs of pressure in each tire. Apparantly they overpressurized the tires to seat the bead and forgot to bleed the excess off.
I went back and complained, and even though they offerred several excuses, (the best was "all foreign cars come over with that much air pressure to reduce the effects of salt air, it will not hurt them" REALLY?) they replaced all four Michelins, marked them as damaged and sent me on my way. I've since bought from them but find they are not as much a buy as before. Very courteous, but basically its Sears.
If you have a Sears Discover/Mastercard, you get some additional discounts and may have more leverage if something goes wrong.
