when people pass away? ;-)
I see your point, because by developing products that keep people coming back, you will invariably get new buyers as well.
I wonder why people aren't repeat buyers (I suspect a fair amount are due to service experiences and things of that nature rather than purely product complaints).
A 10k increase in sales volume is nothing to sneeze at though, especially for Saab. If Porsche is on track to have a great year (due largely due to the Cayenne), then who is to say Saab is making a huge mistake here? You can claim brand dilution until you are blue in the face, but without products like the 9-7 and 9-2, Saab would still have a 2 model lineup. Name another successful manufacturer that only sells 2 cars. The marketplace is far too diverse these days to make 2 models appeal to the masses. Want AWD? Get the 9-2. Want a sporty entry-level luxury car? Get the 9-3. Want an SUV? Get the 9-7. Want something luxurious, but family oriented? Get the 9-5.
Just a thought...this from someone with only 3 years of exposure to Saab. Take my comments for what they are worth. Judging by my current market value, somewhere under $0.02.
Cheers,
A devalued Mark
