i see your point. but would you still buy the Saab if there was such a resonable chance of your transmission failing that Saab made you buy an extended warranty for 15 to 20 percent of the value of the car? And, oh, by the way...we won't send back your original car. You'll have to take a different refurbished model, that's approximately the same color and model, but there's no way to tell whether it's been babied or abused...
That's what Applecare is. Basically, the design-over-function types at Apple goofed again, as they did with the iBook (the lap heater function was actually the overheating chip) as they did with the IMac (hmmm...got a bad modem? sorry, it's integrated into the mother board, so that will be $700 bucks, please..) As they did with the G4 (had such crappy RAM performance that Adobe apps actually ran faster and more stable on PCs)
Ipods make sense if you already belong to the cult of Apple
