Many of you offered advice on where to stay, what to do, where to ride around Lake Tahoe. Just returned from the trip and it was AWESOME. Huge snowstorm just before we got there so snow was nice and soft the first 3 days. We were planning on staying at the Truckee Best Western for about $100/night but instead we scored via hotwire.com rooms at the Hyatt Grand Regency in Incline Village for about 25% off regular rates. That was a serious upgrade given the moderate additional cost. In-house casino, bar, restaurants, hot tubs, pool, Starbucks, valet, etc, as well as being right across the street from the lake.
Boarded at (in order): Diamond Peak, Northstar at Tahoe, Squaw Valley (socked in with clouds - might as well have been blind on top of that mountain - fortunately not too many trees), a day off, then Alpine Meadows and Heavenly. As someone had suggested the backside (Nevada) of Heavenly is awesome, and not crowded like the CA side. The Galaxy run, though serviced by an incredibly long, slow 2-chair lift, was our favorite with lots of fresh powder to be found in the trees even several days after the storm.
I'll definitely be going back to Tahoe someday.
