Re: Emmissions warranty is longer...., but limited Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Emmissions warranty is longer...., Mike Lynch ![]() |
As other have written, I wouldn't wait on the thermostat and temp sensor. The oxygen sensor, though, MIGHT be postponed. After the thermostat and temp sender are replaced, you should be able to turn off the Check Engine light using an OBD-II tool, available on loan from most larger auto parts store. If you turn off the light and it doesn't come back, good for you. If it does come back, the oxygen sensor needs replacement. I reset a light due to an oxygen sensor problem about nine months ago, and it's still off (of course now that I have said this, .....).
I recently discussed a similar issue with the oxygen sensor replacement on our other car, an Audi (which I have b*tched about in previous postings). Audi of America pointed to the specific language in their emissions warranty booklet that lists what is included in the warranty, i.e. ECU, etc., and that list does not contain oxygen sensors; they consider them wear parts, like spark plugs. I don't know what SAAB has in their book for your year car, take a look.
