I've been to the top of Mt. Washington a few times (always on foot). I've talked with the guys that drive the vans up and down all day. Driving up the hill is no big deal. It'd coming down that chews up the brakes. They'er picky about the number of passengers you put in the car - again, not because the car will fail on the way up, but because the brakes can get hot, and hot brakes fade.
Drive it? Sure. I would take advantage of the numerous parking spots along the way to let your brakes cool. You'll enjoy the trip more - it shouldn't be a race to the botto.
However, if you're in decent shape and the weather is good, I would walk it. You really get the view and the feeling of accomplishment. With good hiking shoes and plenty of water, it's up and down in a short day. And if you really punk out when you hit the top (or the weather closes in), you can always take a van down.
