Most of the time it is hand me downs from customers that feel it is too much to repair the car.
My last car was an 87 740 T with 230K miles. It blew a radiator hose and the customer kept driving the car until engine couldn't take it anymore.
With original transmission and turbo on the car it is difficult to convince/validate a customer to plow another couple of grand into repairing the engine.
That car got totalled by a lady mowing down 5 cars outside my old place of work when she came pummeling down the road in her van.
My "new" car is a 96 960 where both the transmission and catalytic converter was bad + the ECU refused to pass readiness codes. That was about $4000.00 if using a rebuilt transmission and factory cat (which is a must on 96 and up 960).
I had my "dream car" for awhile, a 1978 Lincoln Continental MkV so I'm over and done with that.
Right now I don't have a "lust" for any specific car.
