OT: Computer guys' help needed...some advice... Posted by turrbo [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Ok this is pretty basic stuff, I know, but please bear with me!! I just got a new computer (Gateway 310 Series, very nice) because the other one was too filled with syware and viruses and we wanted XP. But I want to erase the hard drive of the old one and start again.
That's my first question...what's the best way to completely erase the HD and re-install windows. I know I need a startup disk and I have the windows cds and such..how do I go about this?
Second, which OS to reinstall. I originally had 98SE, then upgraded to ME, which obviously I hated. But the two new computers I got (laptop a few months ago w/XP Pro and desktop yesterday w/XP Home) both came with their respective Windows disks. Is it possible to install XP (probably Home because I'd have to drive 40 mins to get the Pro CD at school) on the old computer using these disks? I definatley do NOT want ME and if I can't do XP, I'll go back to 98. I'm not going and spending $$ on this computer!
I think that's it, but any advice on this project (gonna tackle it tomorrow) is really appreciated. Thanks guys!!
