My humble advice is:
1. Use a WinXP CD. I believe you get the chance during install to reformat the target drive completely.
2. Use WinXP. I've found it to be much more stable than Win98 except for this latest SP2 update. Now it's taking a lot longer to boot and runs quite a bit slower. Also, once every 20 min or so, I got a 30 second freeze. Quite annoying... two steps back towards my Mac system after they came from so far behind... ;-)
