he has to look at the whole company, and appease stockholders. BUT...
I would kill off Buick or roll it into Cadillac. Buick's target market is dying (literally!) and are Caddy-owner wannabes anyway. So kill Buick and have some bland versions of Caddy for them. Make the top line Caddy's fully competitive with high-end Bimmers, MBs, Lexus, etc.
Keep Pontiac as the more affordable domestic performance brand (although personally I think Pontiacs are a waste of good metal and plastic)
Move Saturn over to the Chevy name plate and make Chevrolet work under the Saturn business model. Use mostly Saturn models, not Chevy. Dump the Cavalier and its equivalents.
Make Saturn the high tech, innovative alternative energy car line where all the hybrids and new technology cars live. Retain the current biz model. And throw a lot of money at new technologies. Lead the way in alternative power options.
Put all the SUVs and trucks under the GMC name only. They all are rebadged GMC trucks anyway.
Have Saab be the European flavor to the mix. Keep it unique, committed to turbocharged cars, make it stronger against Audi and BMW. Above all, keep it European in look, feel, features, etc. Maybe keep a couple hatchbacks in the mix if research dictates it will sell adequately.
Add turbo diesels in many car lines. Offer cars that are alternatives to SUVs and get decent mileage.
So there!
