I agree with all the posts, just be there, be positive whenever in front of her, and listen. Some other thoughts from experience, may sound stupid, but they really do help:
If she has a big family or even if its just her, once she's back home, get carry out Italian (or whatever) and feed them all, with enough for leftovers. People forget to eat in times like this, don't have the energy or time, etc. Getting the food for the sick people is sort of my trademark, and everyone appreciates it every time. And Italian food makes everyone feel good.
Offer to help with whatever tasks, cleaning the house, getting groceries, pick up prescriptions (that's a big one!).
