After been through ovarian cancer with my wife 6 years ago that resulted in hysterectomy, I can say that it isn't only right now and after the surgery she needs your support but for years after.
Hysterectomy is a mean blow to a woman that puts them in a tail spin for years with making them feel less of a woman for not being able to bear kids but also throws them into an early menopause with hot flashes and everything that goes with it.
My wife was 40 when it happened and we had pretty much agreed on earlier not to have kids even before this. Can't imagine what a 19 year old will go through for years.
Don't treat her any differently, just be there and listen when she needs to talk.
Also, make all your other female friends aware of the CA 125 blood test.
This test is not done at the regular yearly check up of women, but they more or less has to fight with the doctor to have it done.
It can detect early stages of ovarian cancer.
Best of well wishes for your friend.
