I was tied up in meetings all morning so I couldn't respond back earlier.
I don't have an operable second machine or second monitor around home anymore since both kids moved out, but as I was writing the initial posting it suddenly occurred to me that I can use my work laptop (I typically keep it at work) to drive my home LCD display and see if I continue to have the same issue with display going black after a couple hours of use.
I don't have integrated video or sound on my mother-board, both features are provided by real cards. The new video card does have TV capability and I do have two old TV's waiting for the next garage sale which I can grab for this purpose, although neither has an S-video connection.
The LCD display is rated for 75Hz and I think 1200 x 800 maximum display. The display initially ran at only 60Hz for some reason (I would change it to the manufacturer's recommended rate only to find it lowered to 60Hz later, odd). I noted while doing the other troubleshooting that it was now set and operating at the recommended 75Hz. I will drop it back to 60Hz and see what happens.
I was hoping for a cheap solution, but if it is not a refresh rate issue it appears I need a new LCD display.
Thanks again.
