Good performance summer tires will corner better, and stop faster on dry pavement or in the wet. They will also wear faster. And for some with more power on tap, they need the added traction to connect the torque to the pavement. If the brakes are maintained in decent condition, stopping distances are controlled/limited by tire traction, not the brake hardware. So lesser tires will always have longer stopping distances at maximum braking effort. ABS does nothing to overcome that.
All season tires wear longer and have harder tread. These can last a long time. As a result, the tread can age harden. Then the traction wet and dry goes downhill. Sometimes these become very dangerous in any amount of wet. So one takes risks or simply tosses out tires with lots of remaining tread. So there can be a measure of false economy in tires with high mile ratings. There is an increase risk of an accident compared to a performance tire. So a performance tire, just like dedicated snow tires, can be considered accident insurance of a sort, but of the type that reduces the risks of an accident, instead of paying out after property damage or injury or death.
