of sound. Yes, it's more work on you but that's how a real turnable works.
If you have a stash of relatively virgin vinyl records, I would invest in a reasonable turntable, not a $10,000 table but there are plenty of good tables out there, go to http://www.audiogon.com and get yourself a used Thorens, AR, Rega, VPI, Linn, Sota... with a good arm and cartridge.
Remember, your records cost more than your table and each time you play a record, it wears a little, so you want a good table/arm/cartridge.
A good turntable sounds much better than your average mass market CD player.
