OT: Audio: Question for Magneplanar fans

How kid friendly are these things? I came very close to getting the Magneplanar 1.6Q but ended up with Revel F30. I realize that these are pretty different speakers but they were my favorites. The Revel's jewel-like tweeter and woofer are kid magnets. Had a close call with a friend's child and my Revels a few months back.
I can probably put a grill on them and be fine but... Since getting the cheaper MC1 Maggies for our living room, I'm seriously thinking about the 1.6s again for the AV system.
Question one; Are these kid friendly? What if a little kid mistakenly hits one with a toy? I can probably sell the Revels for the price of the Maggie 1.6Qs but it's a tough call since I'd also go out and get a Velodyne sub I've been eyeing.
Question two; How much better are the Maggie 3.6s vs the 1.6s? Going to listen for myself tomorrow but I'm curious. I don't like the size of these things but I guess I can get away with it in this room given the tall ceilings.
ps. I'll take a listen to the newer Revels as well just in case. They ARE very nice speakers.
Bill
