I did the TN visa move.
Used to need a letter of emissions and safety standards from Saturn importer (GM CAnada), stating conformance with minor labling exceptions. When you import this way, you cannot sell the vehicle within one year. Then there are state level inspections and emissions testing. Saturn was made in US, that will help.
With State Farm, you coverage and customer history come with you, talk to Canadian insurance company of they are also in the US.
Keep track of all dates in US past and onward, you will need that if applying for permanent residence status.
Get CDN passport renewed now as this becomes quite difficult when on the US.
Any prior marrages? Might need marriage/divorce certs for the future and hard to obtain from out of country.
Transistion tax year is difficult, and you need to be able to documment all time in the US over the last year and perhaps more. Need a expert at such tax issues to do the first year... not cheap.
Investments in Canada or pension plans. There are some tricky tax declarations that need to be done... every year.
Put property up for sale before leaving Canada, otherwise when sold later, will be taxed as a sale by a non-resident and then difficult paper work kicks in and capital gains tax becomes an issue.
Get records of vaxinations, otherwise when trying to become a permanent resident, you will need to have the usual childhood vaxinations all over again.
Need full names of parents, maiden names, birtdates, birthplaces, and info on grand parents for future as well.
I went thru all of the above and did all of the TN, permanent residence and citizenship paperwork myself. It is a big burden. Went from TN to permanent residence by route of marrage to a US citizen.
