Daimler-Benz owns Chrysler.
Ford isn't exactly having a day at the beach.
GM is on the ropes and will almost certainly divest itself of some car lines. The fact that they insist they won't is the tip off, IMHO.
I think Renault could be a real possibility to take Saab from GM--and I think we'd get some nifty cars out of it over time. The Euro flavor many Saab buyers like would remain intact and Renault could build the brand--and it could open the door to the US market, where Renault hasn't played for about 25 years. And that could make sense if GM continues to have its lunch eaten.
I remember what a dealer told me once, must have been 30 years ago. he said eventually there will be about a dozen car manufacturers producing a bunch of different makes and models. Lots of choices, just fewer parent companies with lots of "children." And it's gradually coming true.
