ChipJ is about right when it comes to figuring the cost to the company for benefits - at least from what I have learned. I worked for a fairly generous corporation where HR was trying to lower benefits cost from 34% to 32% a couple of years ago, probably more like 30% today. This includes the perks you mentioned, i.e. vacation, 401K matching, and bonus, but add health and dental insurance subsidization (big!), social security (yes, the employer also pays), unemployment insurance (how do you think that gets funded?), 10 or so paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, pension programs (dinosaur), options programs for those higher up the food chain, maternity/paternity/adoption programs, etc. I'm not sure if this number includes retiree benefits, which were supposed to be pre-funded, but lately we have seen how that worked out.
Are you collecting chips for salary negotiations?
