Good News and Bad News.....
Since your house is 100 years old, the stairs were probably built in the traditional method, meaning they can be "de-squeaked". But you will need to gain access from the bottom side.
The stair treads were probably "let in" the stair stringers, meaning they reside in mortised slots carved in the 2x12 stair stringers or carriage by a very skilled craftsman using a chisel. They are secured by wedges, which were then nailed in place to secure them. The cure is to remove the nails holding the wedges, drive the wedges tight once again, they resecure them - probably with screws rather than nails.
Risers on old stairs (the vertical boards above each tread) were also often rabetted into the bottom side of the lip of the upper tread. Movement at this joint may be causing sound too. These may be fixed without removing the plaster (just a guess here) ceiling/wall hiding the bottom side of the stairs.
Building stairs was considered the most complicated of all carpenter skills in days of old. (Although I have a roof framing pamphlet carried by my grandfather, a skilled carpenter, that I still can't understand - even with a MS in engineering and a PE!) Your best bet will be to hire an very skilled modern day carpenter who has experience working on old homes.
