Stuck in traffic a mile from home

An awful two truck fatality accident blocked up both sides of the canyon where I live. As they say, things could have been worse - yesterday the temps up here were in the high 90's (plus humidity), but today things cooled down. I could have just parked, walked home and then got a ride back to my car some time later, but instead I parked in the shade, opened the trunk and got busy with car maintenance. I cleaned and polished the plastic fuse and relay covers under the hood, cleaned the AC compressor surface, polished the valve cover, then applied black restore to the outside trim and bumpers. Then I detailed some of the "easy to miss" places when washing, and pulled the floor mats out for a shaking. I was tempted to remove the spark plugs for inspection and cleaning, but traffic began to flow. In the middle of all that I walked the short distance to the accident site to gauge the delay. While standing there listening to two motorcyclists complaining about not being able to ride through the accident site, a guy walked up and asked what we knew. Knowing very little other than someone died, he then called a friend who happened to be pulling emergency crew duty that day and got the skinny - the dead driver had to be removed from his smashed Toyota pick-up by cutting him out. The crewman had actually been at this accident site earlier, but his truck was called to another accident that took place further up the canyon. All told, the normally heavy traffic'd canyon was closed for two hours during evening rush hour traffic. And someone died. But, my car is cleaner.
