Forgive me if this is long story, however it is an important one.On Friday afernoon I visited Wigwam Saab in Providence,RI. Test drove a 2001 9-5 wagon. Very nice car, well maintained and talked with Steve at the dealership on getting financing to purchase the vehicle. I proceeded to give my information, and gave a $300 deposit. He told me he would call the banks in the morning and call me with the details and I could drive down to RI and get the car. The following morning (Saturday) he called and said you are approved and have excellent credit and we aggreed that I would be there in the afternoon. He called around 2:30 and said the car is ready, come around 3pm. I went to my friends house and he was driving me down from NH when I got a call on my cell stating that we have a problem. The owner would not let me take the car unless my wife was there to sing the documents. Being that I am from Northern NY and was in RI for a funeral myself. I told them that that was impossible and there has to be another way. Steve told me that the owner would not budge to even bring send the paperwork back. He says that we could run the financing again with just me ut the banks are closed. Can I come back another day. Well I am leaving for NY Sunday morning. He told me the ownwer won't budge. I said can you fax the paperwork to my wife, I will have her sign it with a copy of her license and then fax it back to you. He said they will not accept a faxed signature. I called back and asked if they could scan the paperwork and my wife could sign and send it back to you. They said they don't have a scanner to do it digitally. Steve then said on Monday we can run the credit again and see if it will still go through on Monday. I really liked this car and am really not happy that 25 minutes before I was supposed to drive this car off the lot they decided that there "was no gray area" as I was told and they could not do anymore. This business came recommended and I was treated with respect and like family the first day. I'm not sure what had happened to make the deal unacceptable but this is bad business practice. I then had to call, after truly mulling over what I needed to do and some advice form friends and relatives, to say "I need my $300 deposit back and walk away from this one. Steve then said, "okay". There was no give. Was this car sold to somone else out from under me? Maybe someone with cash? Anyway, today I could have been in a Saab 9-5 cruising back to NY, instead I was srewed over. Let this be a warning to anyone buying from WIGWAM SAAB. Don't buy on a Sturday and if at all possible, just go somwhere else. They didn't seem to really want to sell th car. I was extremely dissapointed and still am about this dealership.
