Why I hate my job, Examples from just this morning Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 31 Jul 2006 06:51:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Example #1:
I had $1,193,000 authorized for me to spend this year on pavement repairs/replacements nation-wide. I selected the most critical jobs where we had hope of meeting this budget (I really need $70 Million per year for 5 years to correct the current horrible conditions), hired the engineers, hired the testing and inspection firms, hired the contractors, and completed all work within the two week window I had available for construction.
I spent $1,192,878 leaving only $122 unspent, or meeting my budget within 0.01%. Do I get an "Ataboy" for this?
Hell No!
Example #2:
My boss gave us less than one week to develop the funding requests for all 2007 construction projects and deliver them to him last Friday. I delivered 6 complete scenarios, each utilizing over 500 lines of an Excel spreadsheet.
He presented one scenario this morning at an 8:00am Staff Meeting and got blown out of the water by his two immediate levels of supervision. They continued the butt chewing in his cubicle after the meeting, then he called me in and instructed me that I had to change my proposal. After he explained what was wrong, I showed him that what was being demanded was the basis of one of the other scenarios! I had explained all this to him last week when I gave him the six funding requests! He failed to adequately prepare for the meeting!
Now he gets to deliver the requested format to his supervisors later this week (can't tip them off that he had it all along) looking like a hero and making me look like an ass, when it was me who anticipated the request and prepared it at the original due date.
Anyone have need for an experienced construction manager?
Just venting, thanks for allowing the rant.
