it is different than changing cars evey few years. We bought a base model C900 4 door in 1984. It finally went away in 2004. Brought one of the kids home from the hospital in it. And to the hospital a few times, too. It was a commuter, a trip car, winter rat, family car. Such a car becomes part of the family in some ways. I didn't shed a tear when it went away...we donated it, but it's badges are in my office and it was a great car. Our two 9Ks and the 9-5 are a lot nicer, but the 900 was so drop-dead reliable and solid that it is a tough act to follow.
Twenty years is a long time, especially with New England winters to contend with. It was always ready to go, and even in its final months I took it on 500 and 800 mile trips. Then everything sorta went south at once, except for it's great 8 valve motor and the tranny. It was still a runner but headliner, brakes, exhaust, clutch, tired wiring, etc., just reached the point where it wasn't worth spending money on. I think we got our $11,600 out of it.
