I was backing out of a parking spot at a local shopping center. I looked to my right - clear. I looked to my left - oops, car immediately left of me is not fully in their spot I'll have to watch their rear corner.
I back out slowly, hear a beep, immediately stomp on the brake to stop. I look in my rearview mirror and see a black Pontiac Sunbird nearly in my trunk. The driver and passenger are moving and looking. I pull forward and out of the traffic lane into empty parking spots, park, and get out.
We had apparently hit. My previously pristine, steel gray, 2000 9-5 now has white(?) paint scrapes on the extreme corner of the rear bumper. Her Sunbird has a crumpled fender at the driver's hinge post, crumpled inner fender, and a driver's door that won't open.
Boy do I feel stupid! With Michigan No-Fault Insurance the Police would not respond when I called them. A collision on private property with no injuries equals no Police involvement. I'll have to call my insurance agent tomorrow, but will probably only rub out the damage myself and not take it in for estimates. A few scrapes on the bumper with no dents or body damage.
The white paint has me baffled. As does whether it was truly my fault. I can't remember looking all the way to the left, and I hit her, but she had an unobstructed forward view and may have been try to blow by me without stopping.
Oh well, it could have been far worse.
