I bet the person you "supposedly hit" will contact their insurance company, and someone will want to come out to the house and access your damage, and compare it to the damage on their clients car, then they will determine if you could have been at fault or not.

I had a similar thing happen last year, no police involvement, I wasn't driving, and I gave no one permission to drive my car. Turns out my g/f took my car and hit some guy causing over $3000 in damage, only causing minor damage to my front bumper(pic below). The insurance company determined on their own that my car was indeed the one that did the damage to the other car, and they sent a letter to my g/f demanding payment...which she will never pay.

I'd say clean your bumper up, await a phone call, and see what happens. A bumper is designed to take a hit, unlike thin sheet metal.

If I had a spare bumper at the time, I would have swapped it(two bolts) and my car would have been free and clear from any involvement.
