Please stop the excuses for Saab. I get replacement parts for manufacturing equipment shipped from Holland all the time. I sometimes even have to call up US Customs at JFK in New York looking for the items (the manufacturer doesn't always have inventory in the US).
Sometimes they don't show up when they are supposed to. So I have to take control of the situation and do some investigation to find the part(s) as the equipment may be down and unusable in our process. I start making phone calls, using web sites, schmoozing the people that I contact. Almost always I've been able to locate the parts and have them expedited through the process (including US Customs post 9-11) and have even gone up to JFK customs to pick the items up myself (without having them delivered to their final destination) on a Friday night.
So if a schmo like me off the street can find a 12" x 12" x 28" box that weighs 20 lbs that's traveling from Holland to Philadelphia (or supposed to be), I don't understand how these "professionals" at IDS can't find a car that weighs ~ 3500 lbs, and furthermore can't understand how they can't give a customer a hard delivery date. Estimates are BS when it comes to high dollar items like autos.
And furthermore, I find the people that I've dealt with from the shipping companies and customs to be very helpful and empathetic. Blaming someone else for shortfalls in the process doesn't help the situation.
It sounds to me like the IDS people are the ones who just don't want to do their jobs. And if they are understaffed, then that needs to be addressed. Understaffing almost always leads to poor customer service levels, and that's what we are talking about here.
Also, saying that "A types and manager/driver personalities get frustrated at the pace and feedback" is insulting. Anybody that spends $30,000 or more for a vehicle is entitled to get upset at the poor service, no matter what personality type they are. Are you saying that a type B wouldn't get upset if they needed the vehicle, but does have the permission to get upset?
