Mental Sport & Endurance... Posted by Scott Paterson [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Waay OT: Is Poker a sport?, Noel, Wed, 11 Oct 2006 05:41:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
No, I don't think it is a sport sport, but mentally I would call it such. The big thing about poker that you don't see on tv is that most hands are very boring without a single raise or just a single raise and everyone drops out. Your good hands are far and few between so you end up watching a lot of hands while waiting for bio breaks. I play on Pokerroom.com (trying to put together a Saab team there actually). I came in fourth in a four hundred person tournament but it was killer because it took five hours to complete. I also won a 200 person tourney for a free ticket to the World Poker Tour final for a trip to the Belagio tourney. That took four hours too. Unfortunately, I got food poisoning last April and I couldn't play the final for the trip.
You need your A-Mental game to be patient while all the early aggressive players knock themselves out of the tourney.
