Waay OT: Is Poker a sport?

There was an article in the local paper this AM about some local dude who is doing well playing high stakes poker. He said he doesn't think of it as gambling, but calls it a sport.
I don't play poker and only occasionally play any kind of card or board game, so maybe I'm not one to comment, but somehow poker doesn't qualify as a sport. Sure, some skill is required, but that doesn't make it a sport.
Is chess a sport? Scrabble? Monopoly? Risk? Dungeons & Dragons? Blackjack? Video Games? These are good competitive games, but are not sports. Calling poker a sport is worse than calling pool/billiards, ping pong, bowling or shuffleboard sports. Same goes for curling (team shuffleboard on ice).
Thoughts?
