I bought my 9-5 in IL (live in WI) and the dealer there had power of attorney to charge me WI taxes instead of me paying IL taxes. That saved me a few percentages, plus I was able to roll the taxes, title and registration into the financing which helped a lot. All I have to pay for when I get my title is the licensing here in WI which shouldn't be much. I'll have to prove I paid taxes but that is in the paper work I did at the dealer.

On the contrary, I considered buying a car from a dealer in MN who told me they would not charge me any tax at all and it would be my responsiblilty to pay taxes when I registered the car in WI. Again, this would save me a little as WI tax is slightly lower than MN, but I couldn't roll the tax into the financing.

Before I bought my car I contacted the DMV and they told me I could do either. Pay taxes in the other state and show proof when registering, or not pay taxes during the sale and pay them back in WI. Your state might have different laws as well as the state you are buying from. I was able to email my DMV and they responded within a day or two.

Transportation will run you 5-600 probably at min. though it depends on dist. I've also read that you may want to select a transporter that uses enclosed trailer vs. the open to the elements trailers. I've heard of cars on the bottom of these arriving pretty dirty and possibly with small road rash from debris etc.

If it is only 2-300 miles away...it might be cheaper just to go get it yourself.

Good luck!

Nate
