...NO you don't need an alignment after changing shocks.
Shocks are not much of a commitment, usually. Before proceeding, make sure this is not a tie rod or ball joint issue! I spoke of this earlier.
If you are handy, shocks are easy. Shocks are like a first job you give you kid when he wants to learn how to work on cars. You need ratchets and a vice grips, (and a blow torch if they are rusted and resist twisting off).
Our trucks are open, spacious and pretty easy.
That all being said, look for the bolts and nuts at either side of all 4 shocks. If they look accessible, proceed. Our trucks are similar, but not exact, so I cannot 100% guarantee what you will find on a Ram. It is just that $400 for $200 dollars worth of shocks seems like a rip off. Especially when this is a 1/2 hour job in a shoppe with power tools, (1 hour job for DIY'er).
Last note. Consider OEM shocks if you liked the way the truck drove when you bought it.
