One other unique aspect of the Saab turbos, is the fact that, with the exception of the Porsche, all the other brands simply quit making turbo-charged cars. Saab took the idea, and ran with it, and continues today. The Porsche has been, and continues to be, a purpose-built car for enthusiasts. Saab saw a good thing in turbo development, and refined their product into a world-class model of efficiency/power. Even when BMW said, "We will never put turbo charged engines in our cars," Saab was trying to tout the benefits. Now, who's making a turbo charged gas engine? Yup, BMW... and it's one of the most well received engines they've released (Aren't they all well received, and for good reason, when BMW develops a new one?)
So, while those GNX fans start talking about how Saab wasn't the first to the table, you can always ask, if the Turbo was so great for Buick, why did they quit making it?
An all-too american answer... more cubic inches gives the same power, and are cheaper and less complex than turbo'd engines. Funny how two countries known for efficiency and complete meticulousness were the ones to accept the challenges in order to develop a superior product.
Oh, and I can get two fully assembled bikes in my 9000, but the ol' 911 Turbo isn't quite so friendly. (Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a 911T, but who am I kidding?)
