ugly cars that don't handle well driving in circles on tracks that are more or less the same.

The France family has done a great job marketing a fairly boring form of motorsport. Having the whole race where you can see it from your seat is nice (compared to road racing) but if you've seen one you've seen them all, for the most part. Not that road racing is all that much more fun to watch, but in good corners at least the cars and drivers are doing something. Both are better on TV, but to my liking the only view that matters is the one from the driver's seat, with a few shots in various corners to see the drivers make the car work. And that only works in road races.

A friend of mine I used to autocross with and I went to see a road race at Lime Rock. He'd never been before and said, "It's OK to watch but you can only see what's happening, you can't *feel* what's happening."
