Why do dealers just replace?

Simple, it's the fastest solution and if it's under warranty, they ship it off to Saab and get reimbursed for it.
Also, since they're working off the flat rate guide, Saab is only giving them a certain amount of time and money to fix something or the dealership has to eat the cost. YOu know they're not going to do that. So for intermittent or difficult problems, instead of spending unreimbursed time actually diagnosing and troubleshooting, they replace a few parts. If you don't come back, they figure they fixed it. If you do come back, they replace some more stuff. Rinse, lather, repeat.
It's not that replacement is automatically bad, but for tricky stuff like wiring shorts, oddness in HVAC systems, creaks moans and squeaks from inside or outside, they just don't want to spend the time; it's not in their interest.
