you have me stumped here. I think I do alright with most of the computers I manage too. I have yet to find any printers that didn't work properly for me. Of course I have managed to kill acouple of them but that was because I ripped the paper jam out and broke a sensor. HP, Lexmark, Epson, are about the only ones I've used. I tend to lean to the HP because the paper feeder is on the front, and the paper output just above it. makes it convienent to put in the closet bookcase. My dad started with Epson and tends to purchase Epson.

HP printers have the print head in the ink cartridge so when you change the ink you get a new print head. Seems like an ok approach. Epson seem to have better resolution (finer dot patterns) and therefore will give closer to photo quality, you do have to have more individual ink carts for the additional colors, so suggest you purchase for you need.

The thing that caught my eye in your post was lotsa printers and lotas computers. Why? I'm hoping you are networked together. If this is a home setup and you have cable modem or DSL you should be using a router/switch and get a wireless one as well to enable laptops to get into the fray.

So if you are networked then get a network printer box. I've used several over the last 10 years. I only switched when they would not work with a new OS. The last one out the door was Intel, worked fine until XP. That broke it. So I did a little research and got a D-Link DP-300U. I have an HP 6122 printer, it does duplex printing (two sided printing) with a simple selection in the printer preferences. has all of the bells and whistles I need, and it's available to four desktops and three laptops. I have my wife's laptop setup to run at home and use the resources available here, and then she plugs into a docking station for her office, and again all of the resources (printer - phone line for winfax) are available there. The printer server has two parallel ports and one usb port. I also have a usb printer copier that I'm about to plug into the printer server. I only really purchased this printer to use the copier function, but I'll make it available to the network. Also, when I am at "work" I use there network and printer, when at home I VPN to Bell, but I use my printer on my home Network. And, if at my dad's house I can wireless via his wireless router/switch and, you should have guessed it, use his printer too. He has Epson, was stuck on them some time ago. His printer driver box has two USB and one parallel port. Needed this because both of his printers are USB. I have the old one...

I only have to stock ink for the single printer. everyone prints to it, it's located in my office. Technology, what a wonderful thing.

And, my neighboor traded me a mac computer, the one that completely contained in the monitor box, has usb, 1394, parallel, serial, ethernet and more ports on the side of it. He told me it has OS X on it so I'm going to put that on the network too and be able to print with it. XP PRO XP HOME, Win 2000 PRO, Win98SE ALL work just fine on the three setups I put together.

send me an EMAIL with specific quetions and I'll try to help.
