My Murray 5HP snow thrower finally refused to be started. I bought it after the infamous snow storm in 94 which shut down the Garden State for a few days. After that I probably used it once or two times a year, a few years it was not used at all. Either the weather was too mild, I have too much junk in the garage so getting it out is too much a hassle, or some times I wasn't even home.
The past few seasons I was able to start it by putting a heat gun for paint removal on the engine high for 5, 10 minutes before starting and it always started. Not yesterday. It would be on the verge of starting after being primed with full choke but could not sustain it. I traced it to a broken rubber hose to the carburetor. Fixed and reconnected it. Still wouldn't start. So me and my two sons got some much needed exercise instead.
It has a Tecumseh HSSK50-67375P four cycle engine. I ordered a new carburetor but didn't know if it is $60 down the drain.
