Put a few oz of Stabil in the gas tank and run the machine for a few minutes to get the mixture into the carburetor.
Assuming you're not going to leave the machine laid up until ALL the fuel in the carburetor and gas tank evaporate, this will stabilize the fuel for around a year or more. This has worked well with my YardMan snowblower for over four years.
If you're going to lay the machine up for more than a year (and with a snowblower that's not a good idea...start it once a year!) drain the gas tank, put an oz of stabil in the gas tank, and run the engine until it runs the carb dry. Pull the spark plug, drain the engine oil, refill the engine oil and squirt oil in the spark plug hole, crank the engine over a few times, put in the plug, and put up the machine.
