It is a very dynamic city. Quite clean, very metropolitan and I understand a very competitive economy. Most things are rather cheap as many raw material and not so raw material are shipped in from China nearby. But housing is ridiculously expensive. $500k will buy you maybe 500 sq feet of flat in a high rise, sometime much less. But other than housing everything else is very affordable, including public transportation.
I am at this age when I only want to enjoy the sights and food. If I were younger I probably would have snatched up all kinds of designer knock-offs of any conceivable variety.
One of the good things about the opened up China is it is opening up her air space too. Remember Korean Air flight 007 shot down over Soviet air space? Nowadays all carriers fly over the north pole across Russia and China to reach Hong Kong non-stop from north America. Continental has daily non-stop from Newark to Hong Kong if I am not mistaken. Only took 14 hours.
Hong Kong is also known to have the highest density of Rolls Royce anywhere in the world. In Hotel Penisula I saw three Rolls and a Ferrari. Later I learned the hotel keeps a fleet of 14 Rolls Royce for its high flying guests. In the course of three days, I saw a total of four Rolls Royce and three Ferrari's. Two of the Ferrari's whistled by me on the street I didn't respond quick enough to take a picture. I did take this fourth Rolls Royce parked on the street. Wonder which multi-millionaire owns this one. It has a No. 4 license plate in Hong Kong.
