On two lane each way freeways the right most lane is *often* beat to an uneven pulp by the trucks. So, if the left lane is much smoother than the right I will cruise there, even if the right lane is open. That being said, however, if I detect faster traffic closing I *will* signal and move over to the right for as long as it takes the way fast guys to go by, and then move back.

In states with major radar usage by the police you will see cars pull around the trucks and then back into the slow lane in front of the trucks as the accelerate away. They are not practicing lane disipline, they are doing their best to screen themselves from radar or laser or ladar or what ever is being used there.


I don't care if someone wants to go faster than me, but if I can't move over because we are queued up in the fast lane moving past the trucks in the slow lane.... be smart about tailgating me. It can't make me move any faster, and it *may* make me move slower.
