And once you begin to focus on the ride of an OG9-3, it's all down hill from there. It's hypersensitivity time and there's a lotta' room for improvement in the design of the OG9-3 suspension, especially the twist beam at the rear.
If this helps, try not to focus on the compliance, or lack of compliance, but on the generous overall wheel travel of the 9-3 design. You'll know the pavement texture clearly whereas more of a bump actually works the supsension and then it ain't so bad. Unless you don't have a tight OG9-3 as it's often the case that they'll have suspension clunks and hatch rattles that further magnify the impact of 17's.
It goes without saying to check your tire pressures, mid 30's will give a better ride and still give you some pothole protection. And do you have 215/45's or 225/45's? I bet the 225's ride better. But if you really wanna' fix it, try a 9-5 first, they come fixed for that.....
