Just remember it is possible to be stuck on the Island if the weather makes it impossible for the ferry to run...

We had a ticket from Nantucket on the high speed cat booked for the afternoon but decided to see if we could get an earlier exit. When we got down to the terminal the other high speed cat had just arrived and all the passengers deboarding looked a little green. At the terminal we were told the cats wouldn't be running again due to the sea conditions but the slow boat was going. We got tickets and stood in line and within 20 minutes the line stretched out of site behind us. Tickets on the cats are for specific trips, but tickets on the slow boat are cattle call, good for a year.

Sitting on the top deck in the bow of the boat with people packed in and sitting on the floor at our feet we exited Nantucket Harbor. The boat shuddered like it had run aground as a wave came over the square bow and crashed againt the glass in front of us. We were nearly two stories above the water. This went on for the first hour and a half of the two and a half hour trip.

There were several hundred people that didn't get off the island that day...
