The only way to do a Sonnet would be in a kit, but it's too much of a niche without enough demand, IMO. And the bar for kit cars is set pretty high.
A company called Factory Five Racing makes a 1965 Shelby Cobra "component car" with a race-quality tubular steel frame, fiberglass body that accepts Mustang 5.0 running gear, along with assorted options. The kit is about $12,500 and you can build a complete car for $20K to $30K depending on what you do for engine, tranny, rear suspension, etc. The company has other models, too, including a true supercar. They are basically race cars for the street.
The Cobra is a car with relatively high appeal, seriously high performance, and has a cache and image waaay beyond that of a Sonnet. Other companies do Porsche Speedsters for similar money that are closer to turnkey cars but still require some work.
