The other option is Superformance, which sells a version they claim is licensed by Shelby. They sell you a complete roller you have to put your own driveline into and those run $40K+.
Sure, if money isn't an object the "real" one is the way to go, but there are 6000+ of the Factory Five cars out there. They are dimensionally accurate and a huge value for the money, even factoring in the time to build one. The guys I've met who have them have spent from $20K to about $35K on their cars. One has a 540 HP big block--in a 2300 lb car. Yikes!
But I question that the ones Shelby is doing will handle better than the FF5 kit. Given the chassis work on the FF5 cars I'd say they're probably equal, and that's on a race track. It'd be interesting to see a comparison test of cars set up the same way from the three companies.
I have the agreeable wife, but not the money, time or self-educating kids. But my bride says we can do it after the cabin in Maine is built--and the kids are out of school.
Sigh. Women are so damn practical!
