Portions of GM certified by DNV..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Saab, GM, and ISO, steve, Sat, 29 Dec 2007 16:53:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have mixed feelings about ISO Certification. Having lived thru many years of twice Annual Audits by the external auditors, re-certification at three or four year intervals, and untold internal audits, I am leaning towards believing the whole thing is a self-perpetuating means of generating income for the audit companies.
Certification basically consists of:
1) Have procedures.
2) Know what the procedures are and where they are located.
3) Prove you follow them.
Note there is no mention of quality! You can build crap, but as long as you know you build crap, and can prove you build crap, you can become certified! Later stages re-certification concentrate on continuous improvement which "sort of" implies improving quality, but still is heavily paperwork based.
We have an entire group of people who do nothing but re-write existing procedures under the guise of improving them, then brow-beating the other engineers because we didn't know their top-secret, password protected, website contained a "new and improved" version of an existing spec.
You don't want to get me started on this.....
Sorry for the rant. Happy Holidays!
