I have never really had any issues with Duralast batteries, nor cheap batteries in general. Of course, I've never had one nor expected one to last five years. Amazingly, the battery that lasted the longest for me was an Interstate "rebuilt" (read: used) battery I bought for $25 from my mechanic. Heh.
I would, however, not invest in Optima batteries. They have not substantially changed their technology in the last decade, but they're still charging premium battery prices. There are many better batteries on the market today, including Exide Orbitals. Ironically, Orbitals used to be rebranded Optimas, but for the last several years they have been a tangibly superior choice.
I've never had an Optima last five years - it's fortunate they have an excellent warranty. Still, I got sick of their poor performance over the long term and have stopped buying them. I'd rather invest in two Duralasts and change them every 30 months instead of one Optima that leaves me stranded...
My $0.02, YMMV.
