First off, while Saab is now owned by GM, the cars are not built in the United States. Second, the car you've got as a loaner is a "Saab" 9-2x. At one point GM owned a portion of Fiji Heavy Industries, which is the company that makes Subaru. GM recognized the fact that loyal Saab owners wanted a hatch and rather than spending the money to develop one specific to Saab, they slapped some Saab badges on a Subaru Impreza. Do not let the 9-2x scare you away from Saab. The 9-5 and 9-3's are still very much Saab. They do share some parts with other GM cars though, like the radio and HVAC controls, but the ignition is still in the right place, etc...
Anyway, Saab redesigned the 9-5 a little in 2006. Personally I don't like it but it's still a good car. If I were you and could afford to get another car I would go find a 2005 Aero with low mileage and CPO'd. The 2005's look just like the 2002's, but even better because of the big 5-spoke rims. On top of that Saab worked out most of the kinks in the design and the 2004 and 2005's are very reliable, so even after your warranty expires it will still be a great car.
