And maybe not...... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Well, it would be good for Toyota Honda in the U.S. n/m, Caarma ![]() ![]() |
The consensus public sentiment seems to be that everyone hates GM, but the public is fickle too.
If GM goes under, what auto manufacturer will the public paint as the villian then? Remember, Toyota killed their electric car program at about the same time GM killed the EV-1; a fact Michael Moore conveniently forgot to include in his movie. Toyota invested heavily in Hybrids after abandoning their electric RAV-4, GM invested heavily in Hydrogen fueled cars following the EV-1. Clearly Hybrids was the smarter short term decision, but GM may be quicker to the long term solution by going to hydrogen first.
Toyota leadership has made some public comments that indicate they fear the public opinion and legislative lashback that could follow the demise of GM, which until very recently was the world's largest corporation.
Will the public shun Toyota, or will they flock to Toyota? Let's hope we don't have to find out, as the fall of GM would be catastrophic to the US and the World economies - regardless whether you like the company.
