So 3 weeks ago Sunday I get a sciatica attack way above and beyond that sends me to the emergency room for intravenous pain meds. Subsequent follow up shows that I have a drop foot. I can't curl my toes on my right foot, can't resist pulling my toes down. I can still walk sorta', stubb my toe a lot.

An MRI reveals an intrusion into the spinal nerve at L4, very consistent with the nerve that causes drop foot. Looks like I had a disc rupture and pieces are now pushing against the nerve causing the drop foot and numbness in the top of the foot, front of the calf and mild pain/discomfort.

So....I'm 55 BTW.....my chiropractor says I should get it operated on right away or the condition will become permanent. My Kaiser orthopedic surgeon has OK'd the surgery so now it's just waiting to get the surgery scheduled for which I am being a royal PITS to Kaiser to keeping from waiting another month or more for a surgery slot.

Now comes the question, do I go ahead with the surgery or do I opt for an epidural injection of some kind and physical therapy? I was really happy to talk Kaiser into the surgery on the advice of my chiropractor, but some folks are saying surgery might not be the answer and to go with the injection and PT.

Anybody have anything similar? I'm a rough tough guy and I thinkin' the surgery will be relatively minor and will restore full function and get me back into the game better than anything else. I'm not ready to have a permanent limp at my young age.....
