By ahead of the curve, I meant ahead of Ford and Chevy's domestic models on turbocharging small engines.
Mopar turbocharged (or still turbocharges) the LeBaron, Daytona, New Yorker, 2.5L Dakota, Stealth (twin turbo), Shadow, Neon, PT Cruiser, 600, and Reliant to name just a few. Much of what they offered was developed through collaborations with Garrett, Mitsubishi and Caroll Shelby. In the early 90's they offered a turbo with an electronically-controlled variable A/R opening for immediate spoolup. There was much written about its development. It offered great power across the whole curve. Mopar was the first major car co. to offer the water-cooled turbo (reliability was really important to Lee Iacocca who was offering an outrageous warranty at the time). The best part about the collaboration with Shelby is that Caroll understands how important high-torque numbers are to American drivers. The Mopar turbo engines offer considerably more torque than the majority of their counterparts.
I would say that both Ford and GM have more experience with supercharging than Mopar does though.
