Had to do it on my 1950 Ford F2 -- no synchros.
But in my 1981 Saab 900 T, when it was really cold out and the transmission oil hadn't warmed, it was good to double clutch, too.
In my 1988 900 T, with a modified engine, I kind of tried it, because when I was shifting fast (to use the extra hp) I was banging the gears and had to have the tranny rebuilt. After the second tranny rebuild, despite double clutching,I decided that wasn't the solution.
The Turbo-X appears to be a good solution so far.
